ARM-R-COAT® SELF-SEALING COATING
Self-Sealing Fuel Tanks and Bladders for Mission-Critical Operations
ARM-R-COAT® by Aircraft Rubber Manufacturing (ARM-USA) is a proprietary fuel tank coating designed to seal a fuel tank after it has been penetrated by a ballistic projectile. Applying ARM-R-COAT® to a tank can allow a vehicle to continue operating after its fuel tank has been punctured, allowing the vehicle’s occupants to safely complete the mission or exit a high-risk scenario.

ARM-R-COAT® protects and seals the fuel tank in two, distinct and complimentary phases. The first reaction phase after a projectile wound is elastic. ARM-R-COAT® uses a proprietary elastomeric component that is rubber like in nature. When a projectile penetrates the coating, the elastomeric compound “opens”, allowing the projectile to pass through and then “closes” around the resulting hole. Test results and high-speed video have shown that in many instances this elastomeric healing process is sufficient to prevent any fuel losses from the tank.
If the hole in the fuel tank is too large to be addressed by ARM-R-COAT®’s first sealing mechanism, a second, reactive sealing phase kicks in. ARM-R-COAT® has been designed with proprietary materials that react with hydrocarbon fuels. The reaction causes the ARM-R-COAT® coating around the hole to swell thereby “healing” the wound in the fuel cell wall and stopping all leakage.
- Threat levels ranging from 7.62mm to .50 caliber
- ARM-R-COAT systems can often be repaired by patch kit (though the base tank or bladder may require separate repair)
- Fuel Safe uses local NIJ-certified lab partners for testing
- ARM-R-COAT can be applied to both tanks and bladders
